All You Need to Know Before Planning a Wine Tour in Richmond

wine tour
April 10, 2018 | Richmond limousine service, things to do in Richmond, Virginia limousine service | Randy Allen

There are many amazing places in Richmond where you can indulge in some fine wine tasting. You could be at Once Upon A Vine on Hathaway Road, C’est Le Vin on North 17th Street, CinéBistro at Stony Point Parkway, The Tobacco Company on East Cary Street, The Boathouse on Old Main Street or Café Caturra on Grove Avenue. Some of these places host special wine tasting sessions on certain days every week. You may even get one free round to taste. However, these are not vineyards or wineries. Some are bars, some are cafes, and some are wine shops with an extended bistro. A wine tour in Richmond is as much an exploration of vineyards and wineries as it is about tasting new wines.

Our personalized wine tours offer an excellent opportunity to discover Virginia’s fascinating wine culture. Come along and let the driving to our Virginia car service experienced chauffeurs. We can help you plan your winery tour experience.

  • The first thing you need to know before planning a wine tour in Richmond is the shortlist of the best wineries in and around the city. James River Cellars is perhaps the most popular, followed by Grayhaven Winery and Upper Shirley Vineyards. If you are planning to tour all three, then you need a whole day. No matter where you are staying and hence wherefrom you start your sojourn, you will need to tread around a hundred miles and more to cover the three wineries. Then you have to account for the rest of the journey to clock the remaining miles. It suffices to say that you would have to be in a car on the road for more than two hours. If indeed you tour all the three wineries, it would take anywhere from ten hours to fourteen hours, starting from your hotel or home and back.

  • Most people try to club James River Cellars with Grayhaven or Upper Shirley Vineyards. James River is almost equidistant to both. Grayhaven is around thirty-five miles to the west and Shirley Vineyards is around thirty-seven miles to the south. Even if you were to have only two wineries on your list for the day, you would need at least five to six hours for the whole tour that would delve enough into winemaking and extensive wine tasting. Your wine tour in Richmond must be planned well, the route should be strategically mapped, and you should set aside enough time.

  • The drive to Shirley Vineyards is fascinating because of the Virginia Capital Trail. Downtown Richmond is a little over twenty miles from the site, and almost all of it is a scenic drive through rural Virginia. You may be interested in the Shirley Plantation History Tour. It was the second oldest plantation in the country. It is also the oldest running family business in America.

The only other thing you need to do is reserve one of our limos. There is no ride more comfortable and plush yet reasonable than our limos. Our chauffeurs conduct wine tours in Richmond throughout the year, and they are among the most knowledgeable to drive you around. Scenic drives are best enjoyed when you get to explore the picturesque beauty without worrying about the road ahead. Our limos will secure that for you.
