How to Make Your Mornings Count

January 16, 2018 | Virginia limousine service | Randy Allen

Mornings are supposed to be the most productive time of day, but have you ever wondered why you couldn’t seem to be able to harness these golden hours to produce anything more than two empty cups of coffee and a few emails? Read on for some easy adjustments you can make today that will help you take back control of your mornings and harness your productivity.

  • Clear your head

When you first get up, try to resist the urge to check your phone and spend hours scrolling through social media to see what you might have missed. Although it can be instantly gratifying it can actually clog your mind with distracting and unhelpful information that won’t help your focus for the day ahead. Instead try taking a short walk, or read a book whilst you finish your breakfast. This will help wake your mind without over-stimulation and get you ready to face your tasks for the day.

  • Write a list

Even if you have a ‘master list’ of large tasks that need to be tackled, try starting each morning by writing down the specific tasks you need to complete that day. Try to estimate a time frame for each one, if possible, and categorize them so that you don’t jump around between different types of task which will make you much less efficient.

  • Do the hard tasks first

After you have made your list, assuming there are no specific deadlines to meet during the day, try to embark on the task you think will require the most focus and concentration first. Most people will find it much easier to focus on intense and demanding tasks during the start of the day when their minds are fresh and energy levels are higher. By tackling the big tasks first you’ll also feel a sense of accomplishment that will motivate you to get on with smaller, more manageable tasks later in the day.

  • Don’t get distracted by email

It is all too easy to open up your email first thing in the morning and get lost in a flood of information and demands from others – before you know it its lunchtime and you’ve not started on any of the tasks you listed at the beginning of the day. Try to resist the urge to open email until you have it scheduled within your plan, but if you really must do so try to limit your time and deal with only really urgent queries first and categorize other messages for follow-up later.

  • Take a break

It is important to schedule breaks within your morning routine to keep your mind alert. Taking short, regular breaks is actually scientifically proven to help boost your focus and productivity, so make sure to grab a coffee or take a quick walk around the office every 90 minutes or so – this is the cycle of time in which many experts believe your mind is naturally in a higher state of alertness.

When your morning routine is key to your productivity, you want transport that will allow you to get the best from your day. Our hassle-free Virginia car service will allow you to rest and relax before you embark on that next big meeting or important task so you can be sure your morning routine stays smooth and productive.
