Jefferson Vineyards
The closest winery to Charlottesville itself, this family-owned vineyard is steeped in history. Thomas Jefferson himself helped establish the business in 1773 with Italian native Philip Mazzei. Since then the vineyard has naturally undergone many changes and became a pioneer of modern viticulture in Virginia. Wine tastings are offered daily, with classic tastings accommodating up to 6 guests as well as private tastings which can be arranged for up to 40 people.
Blenheim Vineyards
Established in 2000 by musician Dave Matthews, a visit to Blenheim Vineyards is a casual, relaxed affair. There are regular events put on by the winery and local food trucks are frequently invited to serve an array of delicious cuisine to go along with your wine. With breathtaking views over hundreds of acres of vineyards and the hills beyond, Blenheim is also understandably a popular location for weddings, private parties and corporate retreats.
King Family Vineyards
The focus at King Family Vineyards is ultra-premium wines that showcase the exceptional quality of the fruit that can be grown in the Monticello region. The winery has won several awards, but it is also renowned for its on-site polo field, which holds matches every Sunday from Memorial Day weekend through mid-October. Tasting room guests can sip their wine whilst sitting field-side to experience this thrilling sport in a unique setting.
Veritas Vineyard and Winery
Located 20 minutes west of Charlottesville, this popular winery offers visitors the chance to relax on their sun-drenched porch whilst enjoying beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Tastings and tours are offered daily, so you can sample up to 10 different wines and then tour through the winery’s crush pad, wine cellar and barrel room. Visitors can also bring their own picnic to enjoy in the gorgeous grounds.
Keswick Vineyards
One of the highest awarded Virginia wineries, Keswick Vineyards is committed to producing truly world-class wines. Their covered porch is open all year, with infrared heaters to keep visitors warm so that the stunning views of the surrounding vineyards can be enjoyed year-round. They run a regular program of events throughout the seasons so you can experience something a little different on each visit and their picnic area, wine cellar and tasting room are all available for private rental.
