One of the biggest sources of stress – and lengthy holdups – involved with air travel often comes at the airport. Long lines and delays can be seriously frustrating and cause unnecessary panic, even when you’ve arrived well in advance of your flight. Avoid the airport anxiety with our top tips to help you speed your way onto the plane.
-
Get pre-checked for security
Particularly if you are a frequent traveler, you should seriously consider getting approved for TSA Pre-check. This allows you to expedite your way through security by using the designated Pre-check line, and TSA claims that last year 96% of Pre-check passengers waited less than 5 minutes – a huge timesaver, especially on busy travel days. You also won’t need to remove shoes, laptops, liquids, belts, light jackets or other products, making the process a whole lot simpler and less stressful.
Make sure your boarding pass and ID are to hand so that you don’t end up having to pull out the contents of your bag in order to get to them. If you are going through the regular security line, have any liquids or your laptop readily accessible so that you can remove them easily once you get to the security scanner belt without creating a hold up for yourself and other passengers whilst you root through your bag.

Check in and get your seat in advance
Most airlines now encourage passengers to check in online, as it is usually a time saver for both parties. Make sure you establish if this is available in advance, though – online check in usually opens 24 hours before the scheduled departure time but occasionally it is not available and you don’t want any last-minute surprises. If you can check in online, you can also usually choose seats in advance so you can avoid having to arrange this once you arrive at the airport – it is worth downloading the airline’s app to do this if you travel regularly.
You often need to wait until you clear security to find out which gate your flight will be departing from, particularly if you have checked in online. However, you can use your smartphone to look up your departure gate on the airline’s website, allowing you to proceed straight to where you need to be once you get in to the main terminal building. If you use an airline’s app or have provided your email address and phone number when booking or checking in, the airline can even send gate notifications straight to your phone, along with any flight updates and gate changes.
It isn’t just when catching a flight that you can experience exasperating delays – it can be equally frustrating once you arrive at your destination only to wait for an eternity to collect your checked baggage, or to catch that irregular shuttle bus to your hotel. When you book our Charlottesville airport shuttle you’ll be met by one of our professional chauffeurs who’ll whisk you straight to your destination in luxurious comfort, so you can sit back and relax with none of the extra hassle.
