How to Boost Your Focus When You Travel for Work

March 13, 2018 | Charlottesville limo service, Richmond limousine service, Virginia limousine service | Randy Allen

It can be difficult to maintain your usual levels of focus when you are traveling for work – with added distractions and unfamiliar environments it can prove tricky to knuckle down and make progress on your ever-expanding task list! Follow our top tips below, and you’ll soon learn to maintain that concentration and productivity, even while you’re on the move.

  • Designate a time to do your work and a time to relax

This is key to boosting your levels of focus and concentration – your mind simply cannot continue to work with the same level of intensity for extended periods of time, so allow yourself sufficient time to take a break and relax. Try to plan this in for a time whilst you’re traveling when you know it will be harder to work, for example whilst you are flying or en route to your hotel.

  • Eat well

Don’t skip on meals just because you’re traveling – whilst airline food might not be particularly appetizing you can make the effort to find something in the terminal building beforehand, or check out a local restaurant when you arrive at your destination – you need to keep energy levels high in order to focus on important work and sacrificing regular meals will cause them to tank. Watch what you’re eating too – just because it’s convenient when you’re traveling doesn’t mean you should eat at the nearest fast food restaurant every mealtime!

  • Ask for accommodation with a work area

When you are confirming your accommodation, make sure that you request good desk space to allow you to focus on your work whilst you’re in your hotel. If you are anticipating the need to do a lot of work during your time away from the office, research different options which may work even better – for example, an Airbnb with a dedicated office room may work well for longer-term stays. Maintaining a separate work and leisure area will help you stay focused and less tempted by other distractions.

  • Stick to a routine if possible

While travel will inevitably disrupt your usual routine, you should make the effort to come up with a new one to allow you to continue to focus on important tasks whilst you’re away. Draw up a work plan for the time you will be away and try to stick to it as best you can – for example, if you work well in the mornings then get up a little earlier and get a few emails in before breakfast. You’ll then find it much easier to stay focused if you allow this to become part of your daily routine whilst you are traveling.

Don’t let unreliable transportation throw you off your stride when you’re traveling for business – trust in our impeccable Virginia car service to get you where you need to be with no fuss or hassle, so you can continue to focus on your important work, without any unnecessary distractions.
